What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is the virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth and achieve the smile you’ve always dreamed of. Using advanced 3D computer-imaging technology, Invisalign depicts your complete treatment plan based on our prescription, from the initial position of your teeth to the final desired position.

Then a series of clear aligners are custom-made for your teeth – and your teeth only – to move them little by little. Each aligner is worn for 1-2 weeks before being replaced by the next in the series, gradually moving towards the projected final position. Your Invisalign treatment time will be determined by us, based on your specific needs.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible. No one may even notice that you’re wearing these virtually invisible aligners, making Invisalign a seamless fit with your lifestyle and day-to-day interactions with others. Invisalign aligners are removable giving you the flexibility to eat and drink what you want during treatment by simply removing the aligners. And you can also remove the aligners to brush and floss as you normally would for fresh breath and to maintain good oral hygiene. Unlike traditional fixed braces, there are no metal brackets or wires. This means that in most cases less time is spent in your Invisalign Provider’s practice for adjustments. And finally, Invisalign allows you to view your virtual results and treatment plan before you even begin treatment so you can see how your teeth are expected to look when your treatment is complete.

Invisalign
What can it help with?
  • Crowding
  • Teeth Prominence
  • Wide Spacing, Gaps
  • Crossbites, Open bites
  • If you want generally straighter teeth.

It is important to remember that straighter teeth are healthier teeth. When your bite is properly aligned and your teeth are straightened, there are less gaps and areas for food to get trapped and plaque to build up on the teeth, causing decay. In that sense, invisible orthodontics is a long-term investment in your oral health.

Before embarking on an Invisalign treatment, patients should be well-informed about various aspects of the process. Here are 10 key things to know:

Consultation and Eligibility: Not everyone is a candidate for Invisalign. The treatment is most suitable for mild to moderate dental misalignments. Severe cases may require traditional braces or other orthodontic interventions. A consultation with an orthodontist or dentist certified to provide Invisalign treatment is necessary to assess your eligibility.

Treatment Plan and Duration: Invisalign treatment typically ranges from 12 to 18 months, but the duration can vary depending on the complexity of the case. After an initial assessment, the dental professional will create a customized treatment plan using 3D imaging technology, which also allows you to see the projected final outcome.

Cost: The cost of Invisalign can be higher than traditional braces, depending on the complexity of the case and the geographical location. It's important to discuss the cost, payment plans, and insurance coverage options with your provider.

Wearing Schedule: For optimal results, Invisalign aligners must be worn for 20 to 22 hours per day. They should only be removed for eating, drinking anything other than water, and brushing/flossing your teeth.

Oral Hygiene: Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial during Invisalign treatment. Brushing and flossing after each meal or snack before reinserting the aligners can help prevent cavities and gum disease. Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are also important.

Dietary Adjustments: Unlike traditional braces, there are no specific dietary restrictions since the aligners are removed while eating. However, it's essential to avoid drinking sugary or colored beverages with the aligners in, as this can lead to staining and decay.

Discomfort: Some discomfort is normal, especially when switching to a new set of aligners. This discomfort typically fades within a few days as your teeth adjust to the new aligners.

Attachments and Other Appliances: In some cases, small composite attachments or buttons are bonded to the teeth to help the aligners grip and move the teeth more effectively. In certain complex cases, other orthodontic appliances may be used in conjunction with Invisalign.

Regular Check-ups: Regular appointments every 4 to 6 weeks with your orthodontist or dentist are necessary to monitor progress and receive the next set of aligners. These check-ups are crucial to ensure the treatment is progressing as planned.

Post-Treatment Retention: After completing the Invisalign treatment, wearing a retainer is essential to maintain the new position of your teeth. Initially, you may need to wear the retainer all the time, but after a certain period, only nighttime wear may be required.

Understanding these key points can help set realistic expectations and prepare you for a successful Invisalign treatment journey. Always consult with a certified Invisalign provider to get personalized advice and a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

Invisalign treatment stages:

  1. Stage

    The Consultation

Once we have confirmed you’re eligible for treatment, we will take photos, X-rays and digital scans, or a dental impressions of your teeth. These records will be used to create a ClinCheck® 3D treatment plan, just for you. Invisalign® are the only company that produces a computer image of your smile as it progresses through treatment before you even get your first aligner! You can view your Clincheck™ video at the practice and if you are happy your aligners will be put into production.

  2. Stage

    The Aligners

After being custom-made and shipped to us, you’ll receive a series of aligners to wear every day and change at home – on average every 1-2 weeks. It is important to wear them during the day and night and for between 22- 24 hours each day to ensure the best results.

  3. Stage

    The Results

You’ll visit us around every 6-8 weeks to monitor progress and receive new aligners (don’t worry it is usually a very quick appointment!). After finishing your treatment plan, retainers will be required to maintain your new smile.

Invisible braces range from £1999 to £4499 as a patient of the practice, this all depends on the amount of movement needed to get your teeth straight.

It can vary from a few months to around 2 years.

Invisalign treatment is barely visible as it is transparent trays, just like a retainer, and it is removable.

It can be slightly tender as your teeth are moving into a new position.

Your speech may be a little different when you first start orthodontic treatment, but it will improve after a couple of days. The majority of people have no problems at all.

No, no one is too old to have their teeth straightened. We achieve great results for people of all ages.

You will have a retainer made specifically to hold your teeth in place. This will need to be worn for 3 months, 22 hours a day and then afterwards forever at night time.

With Invisalign you get to see your end result before you even start the treatment. You will be able to watch a 3D movie of your teeth and see how they will move into their new position. If you do not like what the video shows you, we can amend this and request a new video to be created.

With any orthodontic treatment, if we feel we can get you better results, we can sometimes extend your course of treatment to reach your desired result if possible.
